I
have been in Tallahassee, Florida, for over five years, and now it's
time for a change. I have recently completed my graduate applications
for six different universities across the northeast and the midwest.
I've grown attached to Tallahassee, but it's surely time to move on to
something new. The universities that I am applying to all have
excellent programs in linguistics and particularly concentrations available in sociolinguistics.
I made my break from biology in June 2005 we I decided that I was no
longer interested in spending my life in a laboratory playing with
viruses and never seeing the light of day. I met Dr. Kathryn Josserand
of the Florida State University Anthropology Department and have been
working with her since. She put me quickly on the right track with
piles of books and journal articles
to read to learn as much as possible before going to graduate school. I
hope that all the hard work that I've done, and the classes that I've
taken in preparation for graduate school with pay off with some nice
acceptance letters this coming spring. If luck is on my side, I will be
leaving Tallahassee, once and for all, in July 2006 to test new waters
in my new graduate program.
